The purpose of the SGMA is to maintain a Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum for the historic preservation of the accomplishments of our music, its people and its message.

We believe Southern Gospel Music is the musical arm of our Lord's evangelist church, without regard to denomination. Therefore, it is our job to use all means available to us to praise and spread the name of Jesus Christ through Southern Gospel Music.

On April 17, 1999, the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum opened in Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

SGMA Day is coming to Dollywood Oct. 7

Top talent, food, fun and honoring Southern gospel’s legends

The Southern Gospel Music industry will come together to honor its legends Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. SGMA executive director Charlie Waller announced May 15 at Dollywood the slate of performers which will honor its Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductees for 2009 with their performances on Oct. 7.

The Tribute Concert is 10 a.m. – noon at The Pines Theatre in Dollywood, featuring the Dixie Echoes, Dove Brothers and Triumphant. The official induction ceremony is 3:45 p.m. in the Pines Theatre honoring inductees Neil Enloe, Ed Hill, Harold Lane, Don Light, Bill Lyles, Elizabeth "Lady" Mull, Billy Todd and Charlie Waller

Performers appearing are Booth Brothers, Chuck Wagon Gang, Dailey & Vincent, Dixie Echoes, Dove Brothers, Gospel Harmony Boys, Greater Vision, and the Mark Trammell Trio.

SGMA Day, sponsored by the Southern Gospel Music Association, features a fun-filled day of concerts, dinner and the induction of the 2009 Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame newest members and this year an opportunity to enjoy the day at Dollywood with all its rides and activities.

“This is the gospel music deal of the century,” Waller said. “It’s not one of the greatest shows on earth; it is the greatest because we are honoring our past while building for the future.

“The events will be held in a new theater this year so seating is limited to 900 seats,” Waller said. “Once they’re sold that’s it.” Tickets are $70, which includes the admission to Dollywood, free parking, lunch, the induction ceremony and the tribute concert. Dollywood Theme Park will be open and all shows, rides and shops will be operating. Tickets may only be purchased in advance by calling the SGMA office (865) 908-4040.

“We are looking forward to a wonderful day,” said Charlie Waller, SGMA executive director. “I know the families, fans and friends of the inductees have anticipated this day for some time.”

Dinner includes all beef hot dogs with chili, pulled BBQ pork sandwiches, baked chicken, cole slaw, corn on the cob, baked beans, roasted skillet potatoes, banana pudding, unlimited coca-cola products or gold peak tea.

“I encourage each of you to be in attendance for this milestone event in gospel music,” Waller said. “It will be a day of fun, food, music and reminiscing. Come visit us in the Great Smoky Mountains and be at Dollywood Oct. 7.”

The Southern Gospel Music Association is a non-profit organization that maintains the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame, the only facility honoring this genre of music, for the historic preservation of the accomplishments of the music and its people. Museum hours match those of Dollywood. Donations are tax-deductible.
